Happy DNA Day on April 25, 2016!

Happy DNA Day! In case you have never heard of DNA day, April 25th is the day the scientific world celebrates the anniversary of the formal announcement of the discovery of the structure of DNA, as well as the anniversary of the Human Genome project being completed.

The race was on in the early 1950’s to determine what the actual structure of DNA was. When scientists James Watson and Francis Crick first made their discovery of Deoxyribonucleic Acid being a double helix, it was actually February 28th, 1953. Gift Created Out Of Your Own DNA

DNA testing can offer us so much. By mapping out genes and determining our precise genetic profile, we can now understand more about what makes us unique as individuals and what links us to close family members and our ancestors. We can trace our blood lines back to Vikings, test ourselves for problematic genetic inheritances or simply get a better idea of the building blocks that make us who we are.

These tests have come along way in recent years and have become much more accessible and affordable. What Can A DNA Test Say About How We Look?

When it comes to how a perp looks, that old double helix, DNA, is beginning to provide biologists and forensic experts with all the data they need to evaluate a crime scene for forensic DNA analysis.

Genetics and criminal injustice have always gone hand-in-hand. For example, the Nazis justified death camps on the grounds that Jews as well as gypsies were genetically inferior.

But do you know that the Nazis took their cue from the eugenics legislation passed in the USA? This discussion has been going on a looong time.

Race is usually defined by skin color, but in reality skin color is but one of many genetic traits passed down within family trees. The differences between races are little more than skin deep, when you look at a person’s DNA.… Read the rest
